# AI competitor analysis: See who AI recommends instead.

> In short: AI competitor analysis shows which brands AI engines recommend for your buyers' questions and how often, measured as share of voice. Ossvy runs the same prompts for you and your competitors every day, so you see who leads in each engine and market and which sources explain the gap.

- Share of voice by engine, market and prompt group.
- Head-to-head: the prompts each competitor wins against you.
- The cited sources that drive each competitor's visibility.

## Your category, ranked: brand by brand.

Three views tell you where you stand: the leaderboard, the head-to-head and the sources behind it.

### Average position

Where each brand sits in answer lists, from first pick to afterthought.

### Head-to-head prompts

The questions a competitor wins and you lose, and the reverse.

### Source gap analysis

### Sentiment comparison

How each brand is described: strengths, weaknesses and the exact phrases engines use.

### New entrants

Brands that start appearing in your prompts, before they show up in your pipeline.

## How competitor analysis works

1. **Add competitors**: Pick the brands you compete with, or start from the ones Ossvy finds in your answers. [Prompt tracking](https://ossvy.com/product/prompt-tracking.md)
2. **Compare every day**: Share of voice, position and sentiment update daily for each engine and market. [Brand sentiment](https://ossvy.com/product/brand-sentiment.md)
3. **Close the source gap**: Target the sources that cite competitors but not you. [Citation tracking](https://ossvy.com/product/citation-tracking.md)

## What competitor analysis doesn't do

Share of voice is calculated on your tracked prompts only. A competitor can lead in prompts you don't track, so review your prompt set every quarter. Ossvy reports what engines say about competitors; it doesn't verify whether those claims are true.

## Competitor analysis FAQ

### What is share of voice in AI search?

Share of voice in AI search is your brand's mentions as a percentage of all brand mentions in AI answers to a set of prompts. If ChatGPT names five brands across your prompts and 20% of the mentions are yours, your share of voice is 20%. Ossvy tracks it per engine; see [AI brand visibility](https://ossvy.com/product/ai-brand-visibility.md).

### How do I find out which competitors ChatGPT recommends?

Ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask and note every brand it names. Doing that daily across engines is what Ossvy automates, and it also finds competitors you didn't know about. Try it on your domain with the [free AI visibility check](https://ossvy.com/tools/ai-visibility-check.md).

### How many competitors can I track?

Each project can track several competitors at once, and agencies can set up a separate competitor set per client. Exact limits per plan are on the [pricing page](https://ossvy.com/pricing.md).

### Why does AI recommend my competitor and not me?

Usually because the sources the engine trusts, such as review sites, comparison articles, forums or the competitor's own pages, mention them and not you. Ossvy shows those sources for each answer in [citation tracking](https://ossvy.com/product/citation-tracking.md).

### Can a competitor lead in one AI engine and not another?

Yes, and it's common. Engines use different indexes and sources: Perplexity favors fresh web pages, Gemini relies on Google's index, and Grok uses posts on X. Compare engines on the [ChatGPT](https://ossvy.com/product/ai-brand-visibility/chatgpt.md) and [Perplexity](https://ossvy.com/product/ai-brand-visibility/perplexity.md) pages.

### Does Ossvy show how AI describes my competitors?

Yes. Alongside mentions and position, Ossvy records the sentiment and the phrases engines use for each brand, such as 'expensive but reliable'. Details in [brand sentiment](https://ossvy.com/product/brand-sentiment.md).

### Is AI competitor analysis useful for agencies?

Yes. Agencies use it to show clients where competitors win in AI answers and to justify content and PR work. Reports can carry the agency's logo; see [Ossvy for agencies](https://ossvy.com/solutions/agencies.md).

### How is Ossvy different from other AI visibility tools for competitor tracking?

Ossvy tracks competitors in English, Turkish and Arabic with country-level prompts, and shows the source gap behind each loss. We compare ourselves honestly with other tools on the [comparisons page](https://ossvy.com/compare.md).
